Webelos campfire activity
For their Outdoorsman badge, the Webelos had to participate in a campfire activity. They had to build and put out a fire, prepare a meal and clean up after. The boys chopped potatoes and carrots and wrapped them in tin foil (Micah cut his finger and got to practice the first aide he learned for his Readyman badge). They put the vegies and some chicken in the fire to cook while they made and ate smores. Unfortunately, their leader is ignorant to the amount of time it takes to cook in a campfire, thus we had to leave before the food was cooked. The Webelos ended up eating tacos from a nearby stand. Thank goodness the requirement didn't say they had to eat their meal. LOL

Waiting for the Race.
Thunderbird District Pinewood Derby 2008
Brett Layer, Micah Gale, and Cameron Gale attended this years District pinewood derby. Although the races started over an hour and a half late, fun was had by all. Out of 31 racers, Cameron came in 11th for the Wolves. Micah brought home the third place trophy for the Webelos. And Brett came in at an incredible 9th for the Webelos. Brother Gale looked at the time for the cars and said that most cars came in at 2.6????? seconds. They were competing by hundredths of a second. All in all it was a great day.
Webelos Conservation Project
Despite snow in April, three Webelos from pack 494 showed up to help make Dupont beautiful. Miles Robertson, Brett Layer & Micah Gale enjoyed spreading beauty bark around trees and the garden bed at the park in Edmonds village off of Center Dr. They also put their skills with a shovel to work as they strained to dig out grass and weeds from around the trees. After having some yummy hot Coca, they counted the rings on a fallen log. Mr. Estep is going to mark the rings with historical events so that residents can see how big the tree was when that event occurred. I have pictures of these fine boys working, but have temporarily misplaced them. I hope to post them soon.

Attention Wolves and Bears~
Due to Spring Break, we will not be having a den meeting on April 8th. The next meeting will be at the Newville's on the 15th of April at 4:30p.m. Pack Night will be the 24th of April and we will either have a make-up den meeting or Faith In God on the 29th of April. For those boys that are interested, Lowes is offering birdhouse and planter box kits. Bears must make a birdhouse, and wolves must make something useful to complete their badges. So, this is a great opportunity to get it done. If we can find a Saturday in April that will work for most of us, we will do these projects at the store. If not, we will pick them up and deliver them to the boys. Let us know if you want to participate and when would work best. If you have any questions or comments let us know!!!

Miles helped with the Flood!

I went to help with the floods in Centrailia. It was DIR-TY! We had to take out the couches and cars were ruined.
I had to get up at 5:00 a.m. I only cleaned up 2 houses. My favorite part was ripping out the carpets (soaked!)
I went home at about 11:00. I had lunch and still, it was cold out that there, my knuckes were cracked!
Brett: Reporting the Weather
For most of March the weather has been rainy. For the most part the saying "April Showers bring May Flowers" has turned into, March showers bring April flowers. Hopefully the groundhog didn't see his shadow!

Why a blog?
Calling all Den Moms, Cub Scouts, Leaders and Parents... we have fun news to share! At least it always feels that way. What better way to share and coordinate then with the help of a blog. The idea is that this Blog will be our troops calendar and journal. Leaders will all be invited as contributors to post upcoming events, share things that are happening with the Cubs, highlight an individual boys success...the possibilities are limitless. Parents and Grandparents, siblings and friends will all be able to see what awesome fun their favorite scout is up to. Those with Fathers that are deployed will be able to share their success though thousands of miles a part. I am really hopeful that this blog will become an excellent tool for troop 494!
Pinewood Derby
This last Saturday our troop met for our Pinewood Derby. It was a fantastic event. The boys did an excellent job building their cars, making terrific cakes for our silent cake auction and being great sports. All in all I think our first Derby was an excellent success! Thank you to all the Den Moms, Parents and our volunteer judges who made it all possible!
Our top three finalists. Chase Wilcox, Cameron Gale and Hunter Huillet.
Our Scouts Pinewood Derby Cars!
Some really great cakes. YUMMY!

Miles and Micah share our Dragon with Chloe Clark Elementary

Miles and Micah presented our Scout Dragon to Chloe Clark Elementary school this last Wednesday. After a short presentation about Chinese New Year the boys Stomped on bubble wrap (indoor fireworks :-) and the dragon, manned by teachers this time, came into the community room to the squeals of delight from all the children.
