This last wolf den meeting, we talked about faith in God and our heroes from the Book of Mormon who demonstrated their faith. We planted giant sunflower seeds and took them home. We also sent home family group records and pedigree charts for you and your son to work on at home. Please your son complete this and attach them to the poster. Please find an interesting story about a family member that they can write or type on a computer program, and attach it to the poster. We would like to share these at the pack meeting next week! Please help them work on this achievement. If you have any questions about it, contact me at (253)503-1238.
Also, we worked on Achievement 11a. Please talk with your son about 11b, 11c,11d as well. These will help accomplish the Duty to God Achievement in your son's wolf book.
Next month, we plan on a field trip to the hardware store to learn about tools and make something like a birdhouse. We will study about birds the following week in June. Thank you for all of the work that you do to help your son succeed and receive awards!!!!

We are mentioned in Dupont's Friday Letter
12. Park Appreciation Day – Thank You!
The City would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the many volunteers who helped clean our parks on Park Appreciation Day last weekend! Over 75 citizens came out to brave the rain showers and were able to accomplish several beautification projects throughout the City, including spreading new chips around play equipment, weeding and raking planter beds, and removal of scotch broom
and debris. DuPont’s local Cub Scout troop helped out with the planting of 9 small tree starts near the baseball field at PowderWorks Park. Many thanks are due to Judy Dann who donated the trees to plant in recognition of Arbor Day.
Noah, Issiah, and Ben came out to help and plant trees. Three boy scouts also planted trees, Garrett, Tyler & Cameron. Jacques cleaned up with ward over in Historic Dupont. GREAT JOB BOYS!!!

Webelos!
In February we are going to be working to finish up our showman activity badge. We are also going to be getting ready for the Blue and Gold celebration by making some decorations for the big night on February 22nd! Here is a look at what we will be doing in February:
February 3: The boys will learn some things about music, different composers, and try playing some instruments.
February 10: We will work on some comedy readings and poems. If your boys have a favorite silly story or poem that they love, have them bring it to do a reading for the den. If not I will have some things avaliable for the boys to try. We will learn a little about William Shakespeare and his Globe Theatre and sketch a picture of it.
February 17: We are making WANTED posters for the Blue and Gold as part of the decorations!
February 22 (TUESDAY NIGHT at 6:00): Yee-haw! It's time for the annual Blue and Gold Banquet! All families welcome for dinner, games, and awards at the big western party to "turn back the clock" and celebrate the Boy Scouts of America's 101st birthday! Yipee! Look for your invition for more details to come.
I am looking forward to another great month with your boys! They are wonderful. Coming up in March we will be working on the Fitness activity badge and we have the Pinewood Derby on the 19th of March. If you have any questions feel free to give me a call or email!

NOTE:
Only OFFICIAL CUB SCOUT Pinewood Derby Cars are allowed. This means the axles, wheels and wood block must come from the official kit(s).
1. Material: Race cars shall be constructed for this event from the parts contained in the 2009 Official Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Kit, (hereinafter referred to as "the kit") as sold by the BSA Scout Stores.
2. Weight: Race cars may weigh no more than five (5) ounces (total weight) as determined on the official scales during the pre-race check-in. Weight can be adjusted if desired prior to check-in. The pre-race check-in will take place on dates to be determined.
3. Wheels and Axles: * The wheels shall turn about the axle nails from the kit. * WHEELS and/or AXLES from OTHER than OFFICIAL Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Kit WILL DISQUALIFY THE CAR!!! * The axle nails shall be firmly affixed to the wood of the car body. * It must be obvious to the judges that the wheels and nails from the kit are being used. * All Wheels must lie flat on a flat and smooth surface. If they do not, the car will be disqualified. (DO NOT PUT YOUR NAILS IN AT AN ANGLE! * NOT USING CURRENT BSA WHEELS ... will disqualify your CAR. >>>> THESE ARE IMPORTANT RULES -- FOLLOW THEM or be ready to modify your car to meet these RULES. <<<<
4. Size: Race cars may be no longer than 7 inches, nor wider than 2-3/4 (2.75) inches, as determined by the official gages during the Registration and Inspection. Underside clearance of at least 3/8 (0.375) inches and inside wheel to wheel clearance of at least 1-3/4 (1.75) inches is required, so that the car will run on the race track. Adequate clearance is the responsibility of the race car builder.
5. Weights and Attachment: Weight may be added to the car and will be considered part of the car for purposes of all measurements. Weights must be attached to the car body only (cannot add weight to wheels). "Weight" is considered to be any material on the car that is not provided in the kit. All weight must be securely fastened to the car, e.g. by permanent glue, nails or screws, but not by "sticky substances", e.g. tape, or tack spray. Weights shall be passive, i.e. non-moveable, non-magnetic, non-electric, non-sticky, etc. Sticky "coin" envelopes are not allowed -- even if bought at the Scout Store.
Weights attached with double backed "foam tape" are being allowed this year on a trial basis. If in the opinion of the judges weights are adequately attached by tape ... they may be allowed ... try to find some way other than tape to attach weights to the car. Since we have had cars with transparent tape, masking tape and even trusty old duct tape come loose after official check-in. DO NOT USE TAPE (unless it is double backed foam ... trying it for one more year).
6. Wheel Treatment: Wheel treatment (hub and tread smoothing and polishing) may not result in substantial removal of mass nor in reducing the wheel width from the original kit wheels. No mass can be ADDED to the wheels in any form. Some of the original "tread marks" on the wheel face must remain intact, i.e. apparent to the inspector. Wheels may not be machined to a beveled condition and the portion of the wheel surface that contacts the track must remain parallel to the axle. Diameter of the wheel must be a minimum of 1.170 inches, this allows for removing any burrs that may have occurred during the molding process. Grooves in the wheels are NOT allowed. Any wheel surface modified to be different than a flat smooth wheel surface parallel to the track will be a basis for disqualification.
7. Unacceptable Construction: The following may NOT be used in conjunction with the wheels or axles: hubcaps, washers, inserts, sleeves, springs, bearings.
8. Gravity Powered: The race car may not be constructed or treated in such a way that the track's starting mechanism imparts momentum to the car. (For instance, this provision disqualifies cars with sticky substances on the front of the car and protrusions which may catch on the starting pin.)
9. Lubricants: Only dry lubricants such as graphite or powdered Teflon "white lube" will be allowed for lubricating the wheels. Lubricants may not foul the track. There will be an opportunity to add lubricant at check-in. Once the car is checked in, no additional lubrication will be allowed.
10. Car Damage: During the race, should a car become damaged, a repair station will be provided. Participants will be able to repair their car. Only damage that resulted during the District race can be repaired (no improvements will be performed).
11. Height Limitation: We recommend no more than 3 1/2 inches. Remember -- The taller the car, the more likely something will get broken.
12. Questions about the Rules: a. Judges have the final say about rules!!! b. In case of conflicting rules ... District rules govern the Race! c. If any one thinks the judges are wrong ... Judges have the final say about rules!!!
